Riverdale Receives REACHES Grant
The Riverdale wrestling team was awarded a $3000 grant from REACHES. Riverdale High School is located in the heart of Jefferson Parish. Riverdale is a part of the Jefferson Parish Public School System, and is currently the only non-select public school to earn an A ranking in the parish. Riverdale is home to almost 980 students after Hurricane IDA. Over 66% of the students at Riverdale are on the Free or Reduced Lunch Program. REACHES awarding Riverdale this grant will allow the team to purchase headgear, shoes and warm ups. Public schools in Jefferson receive zero funding for any athletic program. This grant will help relieve the cost to compete for any new wrestler. Never again will a student at Riverdale be denied an opportunity to wrestle because he or she cannot afford wrestling shoes or headgear that is required to compete. Wrestling is one of the hardest sports to compete in. It is also an expensive sport to start up. REACHES made it easier for students to start wrestling at Riverdale High School.
