About Killeen Kangaroos Athletic Booster Club
Killeen Kangaroos Athletic Booster Club is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the Killeen High School located in Killeen, TX. Killeen, Texas is located right next to Ft. Hood. In April 2014, the Fort Hood website lists 45,414 assigned soldiers and 8,900 civilian employees with Fort Hood covering 214,000 acres, making it one of the largest military bases in the world by area. Killeen High School has 2300 students enrolled in the student body, a majority being military dependents and low income families that attend its location. Killeen High School is one of four high schools in the Killeen ISD (Independent School District). The KKABC helps to provide the student athletes and sports programs by providing equipment, meals, uniforms, training aids, scholarships and promote our sports teams and student athletes to build school and community spirit and moral for Killeen High School. KKABC funds that are raised help to contribute where the regular sports budgets may not cover. All of this is accomplished by a small number of individuals in KKABC, who are dedicated to help make it easier for our coaches and student athletes to field teams and compete at the highest level possible in all of our sports programs.
About Killeen High School Wrestling
The Killeen High School wrestling program since 2011 has had 14 State Qualifiers, 5 State Placers, 18 Regional Placers, over 40 Regional Qualifiers and over 20 District Champions. KHS (Killeen High School) competes in the Texas UIL 6A Division. Our wrestling program is a small program and has been building and growing with each year. This is due to the number of transitional students we have attending do to the military. Also high school wrestling is still an up and coming sport in the state of Texas.
“I applied for the R.E.A.C.H.E.S. grant to help the KKABC (Killeen Kangaroos Athletic Booster Club) build our wrestling program by hoping to get assistance in getting a tournament wrestling mat. We do not have enough mats to be able to hold our own events at our own school. Thus making our student athletes travel most of their season. Our coaches do the best with what equipment they have to make our kids enjoy and love the sport of Wrestling, and our student athletes do love to wrestle and compete for their school. We consider it a blessing to have received this grant from R.E.A.C.H.E.S. The grant money will help to provide new singlets and head gear for our wrestlers. This will help to improve the moral and wrestling program by giving the kids more pride in themselves and their school and it will hopefully enticing more student athletes to join the wrestling program. Thank you R.E.A.C.H.E.S. for this opportunity, it will do wonders for our school, our coaches and most importantly our wrestlers.” said by James Bolin KKABC – President.
