Cameron Wrestling Team Receives Grant
The Cameron R-1 Wrestling Program recently received a grant from R.E.A.C.H.E.S. in the amount of $3,000 in retail products from BRUTE wrestling. R.E.A.C.H.E.S. (Rewarding Educational Athletic Choices Helping Each Sport) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2007 to promote, protect and preserve the integrity of amateur athletics by providing athletic and educational opportunities to all athletes of all ages. BRUTE wrestling began in 1967 as the Henson Company, Inc. and was the first United States Company to sell wrestling products by mail order.
The R.E.A.C.H.E.S. non-profit organization helps sponsor the BRUTE Nationals wrestling tournament held in the Kansas City area for the last eleven years. The 2014 tournament, hosted roughly 1,400 wrestlers in grades 1-12 at the Independence Events Center. Nearly $200,000 has been donated back to wrestling programs by the national wrestling event.
BRUTE’s donation to the program will include matching singlets and headgear for the district’s middle school wrestling program. “The middle school program has never had a complete set of matching singlets with sizes to fit middle school athletes,” commented Middle School Athletic Director Mr. Dave Brown.”We are so pleased to accept these items from BRUTE,” added Head Varsity Wrestling Coach Philip Limb.
