Brooks County High School Wrestling Team Receives Funding
The Brooks County High School wrestling team has received funding in the amount of $3000 from R.E.A.C.H.E.S. These funds go towards the purchase of much needed Adidas wrestling gear in preparation for the upcoming 2021-2022 wrestling season.
Brooks County High School is a small high school in rural Quitman, GA. The school may be small in numbers, approximately 580 students, but it is rich in talent. Look no further than the perennial football powerhouse that is the Brooks County Trojans football team, which is one of the top football teams in the state of Georgia year in and year out. One thing that has been lacking for these great student athletes is the sport of wrestling. There have been attempts at
starting a wrestling program at Brooks County High School with little success. The 2020-2021 season was the first year of revival for the wrestling program. A trying season with the challenges of the Covid pandemic, but one that saw the first state qualifiers in the school’s history. The Trojans hope to build off of the previous season and the funding from R.E.A.C.H.E.S will help these young men. This program is starting from scratch aside from an old wrestling mat and this funding has allowed for the purchase of new Adidas singlets and warm-up shirts. This allows the wrestling program to allocate monies towards other areas of need with the knowledge that R.E.A.C.H.E.S has taken care of uniforms. This was very unexpected and the Trojan wrestling team expresses the utmost appreciation for this opportunity.
