About Little Axe High School Wrestling
Our wrestling program is a small program and has been building and growing with each year. High School wrestling is very important in the state of Oklahoma, and our student athletes deserve to participate with the best equipment that we can provide for them. We are a Title I, rural school that was in great need of a R.E.A.C.H.E.S. grant.
“I applied for the R.E.A.C.H.E.S grant to help the Little Axe High School Wrestling Team provide to our student athletes some of the gear that other local schools have. We wanted our kids to feel like they belonged on the mat in any and every gym. Our student athletes have not had matching warm-ups, matching singlets, gear bags, or even headgear. We wanted to build up our wrestling program by hoping to get assistance in getting gear bags, knee pads, and custom headgear. Our coaches do the best with what equipment they have to make our kids enjoy and love the sport of Wrestling, and our student athletes do love to wrestle and compete for their school. We consider it a blessing to have received this grant from R.E.A.C.H.E.S. The grant money will help to provide new singlets and warm ups for our wrestlers. This will help to improve the morale of the wrestling program by giving the kids more pride in themselves and their school and it will hopefully entice more student athletes to join the wrestling program. Thank you, R.E.A.C.H.E.S. for this opportunity, it will do wonders for our school, our coaches and most importantly our wrestlers.” said by Jamie Nievar, Little Axe Wrestling Club – President.
